Chopard
Chopard's History – From Swiss Watchmaker to the Jeweler of the Red Carpet
Founded in 1860 in Sonvilier, a small village in the Swiss Jura, Chopard began as the workshop of Louis-Ulysse Chopard, who built a reputation for precise and reliable pocket watches and chronometers. In 1937, the company moved to Geneva, the heart of fine Swiss watchmaking. A turning point came in 1963, when the Chopard family sold the company to Karl Scheufele III, a German goldsmith and watchmaker from Pforzheim. For more than 60 years, the Scheufele family has led Chopard as one of the few great luxury houses that remains independent and family-owned.
Unlike many jewelry houses that began as jewelers, Chopard brought a watchmaker's precision to fine jewelry — and then added a sense of joy. In 1976, the house introduced Happy Diamonds, setting diamonds free to dance between two sapphire crystals, an idea that became Chopard's signature. In 1996, it opened its own watchmaking manufacture in Fleurier, and in 1998 it became the official partner of the Cannes Film Festival, where it crafts the Palme d'Or each year. Since July 2018, Chopard has used 100% ethical gold in its jewelry and watches — a commitment few houses of its size can match.
Today, Chopard presents an exquisite range of fine jewelry, including necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, watches, and high jewelry creations. Led by co-presidents Caroline Scheufele and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, the house has become a global symbol of glamour, admired by collectors and worn by celebrities on red carpets around the world.
Rather than following passing trends, Chopard has stayed faithful to the joyful spirit of its moving diamonds. Signature collections such as Happy Diamonds, Happy Hearts, Ice Cube, and Happy Sport have been cherished for years, cementing Chopard's place as one of the most prestigious and enduring names in the fine jewelry industry.

ONE OF ONE's Insight
Chopard combines Swiss watchmaking with fine jewelry, but its resale market is smaller than Cartier's or Van Cleef & Arpels'. As a result, pre-owned Chopard pieces generally trade further below retail, which makes them one of the best-value ways to own Swiss luxury jewelry.
Happy Diamonds and Happy Hearts are the most liquid lines. Their moving-diamond design is instantly recognizable, and pre-owned prices that are reasonable compared with boutique prices help them find new owners faster than one-of-a-kind pieces.
Ice Cube is valued for its gold weight and finish. Because the cubes are polished by hand, deep scratches or resizing can affect the look — condition matters more here than on most lines.
For Happy Diamonds pieces, check that the diamonds still move freely and that the sapphire crystal is free of chips or cracks.
Keeping the original box, Chopard certificate, and any diamond grading report is essential, both for buyers to know what they're getting and for sellers to get full value for their piece.

Chopard Care Guide
How to Care for Your Chopard Jewelry
Chopard jewelry pairs fine gold and diamonds with moving parts, sapphire crystal and decorative stones, so a few simple habits go a long way toward keeping each piece in good condition.
Daily Care Tips
Put your jewelry on after perfume, hair spray and lotion have dried, and take it off before swimming, exercising, showering or cleaning. Avoid knocks and hard impacts, especially on Happy Diamonds pieces, where the moving diamonds sit between two sapphire crystals.
Cleaning Your Chopard Jewelry
Wipe the piece gently with a soft, lint-free cloth, or rinse briefly in lukewarm water with a mild neutral detergent and dry thoroughly. Avoid soaking Happy Diamonds pieces for long periods and avoid ultrasonic cleaners on them, since moving diamonds and crystal housings do not benefit from vibration. Mother-of-pearl, carnelian and onyx hearts should be kept away from harsh chemicals.
Storage Recommendations
Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or lined case so that stones and metal do not scratch one another. Keep Ice Cube pieces especially well separated, since their faceted gold edges show scratches easily, and store away from direct sunlight and humidity.
Professional Inspection & Polishing
Have moving-diamond pieces and diamond-set bands checked by a professional about once a year for loose stones and the condition of the sapphire crystal. Polishing removes a very small amount of gold and can soften the crisp, hand-faceted edges of Ice Cube, so keep it to a minimum and do it only when needed.
Maintaining Long-Term Value
Keep the original box, Chopard certificate, any diamond grading report, receipts and service records together. Avoid unnecessary resizing or alterations, since original condition and complete papers are what buyers value most at resale.
