Dior Jewelry's History—From the Rose Garden at Granville to Place Vendôme

Founded in 1946 by Christian Dior at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris, the house changed the course of fashion with its very first collection on February 12, 1947 — the collection the press would call the "New Look." Christian Dior grew up at Les Rhumbs, a seaside villa in Granville, Normandy, where his mother tended a rose garden, and the rose remained his favorite flower all his life. He was also deeply superstitious, carrying lucky charms such as sprigs of lily of the valley, four-leaf clovers and hearts in his pockets. The most treasured of all was a small star he found on a Paris street in the 1940s, which he took as a sign to open his own house — and which remains one of the most important motifs in Dior jewelry today.

Dior fine jewelry began in earnest in 1998, when the house created its jewelry department, Dior Joaillerie, and appointed Victoire de Castellane as its artistic director. Born generations after Christian Dior, she never met him, yet she reinterpreted his codes — the rose, the star and the garden — through bold color and sculptural forms. Dior Joaillerie opened its boutique on Place Vendôme, the heart of Parisian high jewelry, and in 2001 introduced Mimioui, a fine gold chain set with a single diamond that made diamonds part of everyday life for more women. In 2012 came My Dior, which wove the cannage pattern of the Napoleon III chairs from the house's 1947 debut show into gold, and in 2015 Rose des Vents, inspired by the compass rose at Granville and the lucky star. In 2018, the house marked 20 years of Dior Joaillerie with Gem Dior, its largest high jewelry collection at the time.

Today, Dior presents an exquisite range of fine jewelry, including necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, and high jewelry creations. Part of the LVMH group, Dior Joaillerie has been shaped by Victoire de Castellane for more than 25 years, and in Korea it is loved as a house that brings together the spirit of couture and the craftsmanship of fine jewelry.

Rather than following passing trends, Dior jewelry has stayed faithful to the story of its founder — the rose, the star, the garden and a lifelong belief in good luck. Signature collections such as Rose des Vents, My Dior, and Bois de Rose have been cherished for years, giving Dior a lasting place in the fine jewelry world, well beyond its role as a fashion house.

ONE OF ONE's Insight

Dior brings couture-house recognition together with fine jewelry craftsmanship, but its jewelry resale market is smaller than Cartier's or Van Cleef & Arpels'. As a result, pre-owned Dior fine jewelry generally trades further below retail, which makes it an attractive way to own a piece from the house.

Rose des Vents is by far the most liquid line. Its medallion necklaces and bracelets are instantly recognizable, and strong demand in Korea helps pre-owned pieces find new owners quickly.

For Rose des Vents, check stones such as mother-of-pearl and onyx for chips or scratches, and the twisted bead border for dents. For My Dior, check the woven cannage and any lacquer for damage.

Keeping the original box, Dior certificate, and proof of purchase is essential, both for buyers to know what they're getting and for sellers to get full value for their piece.

Rose des Vents

Launched in 2015, Rose des Vents was inspired by the compass rose set into the ground at Les Rhumbs, Christian Dior's childhood home in Granville, and by the lucky star he believed in — a gold medallion with a twisted bead border and a diamond at its heart, like a guiding star.

First launched in 2012, My Dior turns Dior's cannage — the woven pattern of the Napoleon III chairs used at the house's first show in 1947 — into finely woven 18k gold. In 2025, the collection expanded with new rings, cuffs, bracelets and earrings.

Dior Care Guide

How to Care for Your Dior Jewelry

Dior jewelry is made to be worn, from the stone-set medallions of Rose des Vents to the woven gold of My Dior and the sculpted thorns of Bois de Rose, and a little regular care keeps each piece looking its best.

Daily Care Tips

Put your jewelry on after perfume, hair spray and lotion have dried. Take it off before swimming, exercising or cleaning. Stones such as mother-of-pearl, onyx and rose quartz on Rose des Vents pieces can be chipped or scratched by hard knocks, and the lacquer on My Dior pieces can be damaged by impact and chemicals.

Cleaning Your Dior Jewelry

Wipe gold and diamond pieces gently with a soft, lint-free cloth, or rinse briefly in lukewarm water with a mild neutral detergent and dry thoroughly. Clean the twisted bead border of Rose des Vents and the woven cannage of My Dior with a soft brush, since dirt collects in the recesses. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners on pieces with mother-of-pearl, onyx or lacquer.

Storage Recommendations

Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or lined case so that diamonds and metal do not scratch stones, lacquer or other pieces. Keep chain necklaces and bracelets closed and flat to prevent tangles, and keep stone-set medallions away from direct sunlight and humidity.

Professional Inspection & Polishing

Have clasps, medallion settings and diamond-set thorns on Bois de Rose pieces checked by a professional about once a year, and polish the gold only when needed, since polishing removes a very small amount of metal.

Maintaining Long-Term Value

Keep the original box, Dior certificate, receipts and service records together. Avoid unnecessary resizing or alterations, since original condition and complete papers help at resale.
