Spotting a Fake Boucheron Quatre Classic Diamond Ring

By Jessi, Concierge ·

Hello, I'm Jessi, a concierge at ONE OF ONE. Today I'd like to share the appraisal results for a customer who brought a Boucheron Quatre Classic Diamond ring, large model, to our showroom to find out whether it was genuine.

When a piece comes without a warranty card, a private direct deal made without an expert appraisal can lead to a serious financial loss. We recommend having the piece authenticated by a trustworthy business, or buying only pieces that a business has already authenticated and guarantees as genuine.

At first glance, almost identical

To the naked eye, it looked remarkably similar to a genuine ring.

The order of the engravings

But as we examined the engravings one by one, something felt off. The customer had come to sell a gift from a former girlfriend. When a piece belongs to someone who didn't buy it at the boutique themselves, we inspect it even more thoroughly.

First, the order of the engravings on this piece differed from that of a genuine one.

Genuine order: BOUCHERON, size, serial number, Au750, workshop mark, eagle mark.

Genuine Boucheron Quatre ring, numbered 2: the size and the start of the serial number
Genuine Boucheron Quatre ring, numbered 3: the end of the serial number followed by Au750

Genuine engravings, numbered in order (1–4).

Counterfeit order: workshop mark, BOUCHERON, Au750, size, serial number, and no eagle mark.

The workshop mark and the size

The workshop mark, the one in which you can make out the letters SB, was very different between the genuine ring and the fake.

The fake also carried a capital T in front of the size (T61), while the genuine ring has no T in front of its size (66).

The diamond

Above all, the diamond test showed that the stones were lab-grown, not natural. HPHT stones are lab-grown diamonds made under high temperature and high pressure, and in that case the testing instrument shows red, as below.

We authenticate thoroughly, checking a wide range of factors. If you buy luxury jewelry that we have authenticated this carefully, you can be sure it is genuine.

If you need a piece authenticated, please come to ONE OF ONE. Almost nowhere in Korea offers on-site authentication. Where it is offered, it often carries an extra fee, and the piece usually has to be left for 2–7 days. At ONE OF ONE, on-site authentication is available by prior appointment: KRW 70,000 for a verbal appraisal and KRW 100,000 for an appraisal certificate.

We're at 336 Apgujeong-ro. Please contact us at +82 10-8995-7062.
