TASAKI
TASAKI's History—From Japan's Pearl Farms to a Global Pearl House
Founded in 1954 in Kobe, Japan, TASAKI began as Tasaki Shinju — "Tasaki Pearl." Its founder, Shunsaku Tasaki, grew up in a family of pearl farmers and is said to have kept five pearls he found as a child as a lifelong good-luck charm. Rather than simply growing pearls, he chose to oversee every step himself — from cultivation and selection to processing, design and sales — an approach that remains TASAKI's greatest strength today.
TASAKI grew into the world's largest producer of Akoya pearls. In 1970, its own research institute became the first in the world to successfully cultivate Mabe pearls, and in 1979 the house opened its own pearl farm at Kujukushima in Nagasaki. In 1994, TASAKI became the only De Beers sightholder in Japan, buying rough diamonds directly and cutting them in its own Kobe workshops. In 2009, the company rebranded as TASAKI and appointed designer Thakoon Panichgul as creative director. The following year, in 2010, it introduced the Balance collection — evenly matched pearls set in a row on a gold bar. Known as a tribute to the founder's five pearls, the design soon became the icon of the house.
Today, TASAKI presents an exquisite range of fine jewelry, including necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, and high jewelry creations. The house opened its first European flagship on London's New Bond Street in 2019, celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2024, and has become one of the most loved names in pearl jewelry in Korea.
Rather than following passing trends, TASAKI has stayed faithful to the quality of the pearls it grows itself and to designs that break with convention. Signature collections such as Balance and Danger, along with its classic Akoya pearl necklaces, have been cherished for years, cementing TASAKI's place as one of the most prestigious and enduring names in the fine jewelry industry.

ONE OF ONE's Insight
TASAKI combines in-house pearl cultivation with design-led fine jewelry, but its resale market is smaller than Cartier's or Van Cleef & Arpels'. As a result, pre-owned TASAKI pieces generally trade further below retail, which makes them an attractive way to own jewelry from the house.
Balance is by far the most liquid line. Its pearls-on-a-bar design is instantly recognizable, and steady demand in Korea helps pre-owned pieces find new owners quickly.
Pearls are organic gems and are sensitive to sweat, cosmetics and perfume, so luster, nacre condition and discoloration have the biggest impact on value. For Balance, check the gold bar for bending and that each pearl sits firmly in place; for Danger, check that all pavé diamonds are present; for Akoya strand necklaces, check whether the silk thread has stretched and needs restringing.
Keeping the original box, TASAKI certificate, and proof of purchase is essential, both for buyers to know what they're getting and for sellers to get full value for their piece.

TASAKI Care Guide
How to Care for Your TASAKI Jewelry
TASAKI pearls are organic gems, from the pearl-on-a-bar designs of Balance to the classic Akoya strands, and gentle, regular care keeps their luster for years.
Daily Care Tips
Put your pearls on last, after perfume, hair spray and cosmetics have dried, and take them off first when you get home. Sweat, perfume and acids dull the nacre, so avoid wearing pearls while exercising, swimming or cleaning.
Cleaning Your TASAKI Jewelry
After each wear, wipe pearls gently with a soft, dry cloth. Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steam, or chemical cleaners on pearls. Gold and diamond parts can be wiped with a soft cloth, keeping water and detergent away from the pearls and, on strands, from the silk thread.
Storage Recommendations
Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or lined case so that pearls are not scratched by metal and diamonds. Lay strand necklaces flat rather than hanging them, since hanging stretches the silk thread, and avoid direct sunlight, heat and very dry air.
Professional Inspection & Restringing
Have clasps, pearl settings and the Balance gold bar checked by a professional about once a year, and have Akoya strands restrung when the thread stretches or darkens.
Maintaining Long-Term Value
Keep the original box, TASAKI certificate, receipts and service records together. Pearl luster, nacre condition and complete papers all help at resale.
